DENVER – While other real estate offices are struggling during a challenging market, Kentwood City Properties in downtown Denver has posted a 3.8 percent increase in total sales volume for 2009 over the previous year.  Likewise, the top-producing office recorded a total of 700 closed real estate transactions in 2009, an impressive 20.9 percent increase over 2008.

      “We are most likely one of few real estate brokerages both locally and nationally that actually grew during 2009 over the previous year,” said Jim Theye, co-owner and managing broker of Kentwood City Properties.  “We typically don’t actively recruit, but we did add several ‘heavy hitters’ to our team as other real estate firms lost ground or closed their offices.  Several brokers joined us during the year to align themselves with an office poised with momentum, and to surround themselves with brokers who are at the top of the real estate game in an office with incredible energy. 

      “Everyone worked hard to make 2009 a successful year in a down market,” Theye continued.  “We held together as a group and recorded gross sales volume of nearly $275,000,000, which positions us very favorably for a strong 2010.  Our market share definitely has grown, and we have an even stronger presence in the central Denver area.  Showings were up, and we had 15 percent more listings in 2009 than 2008.  We also opened a new commercial real estate division to better serve our live/work and office clients, and added expertise in both the west Denver areas of Golden and Genesee and the northern front cities of Thornton and Broomfield. 

“As a side note, about a dozen of our brokers went on a diet last year and collectively lost more than 200 pounds in order to get down to a healthy,  agile weight for extra energy during the difficult market.  In other words, we’ve become remarkably responsive to the needs of our clients when it comes to Denver real estate.”
